Auto Repair Services in Cayucos, California

Driving along the Central Coast means dealing with salt air, coastal fog, and winding roads that put unique demands on every vehicle. At Shift’n Gears Auto Repair, we serve Cayucos and the surrounding San Luis Obispo County communities with honest, reliable service backed by real expertise. Our Paso Robles shop is just a short drive up the coast, easily reached via Highway 1 — and from factory scheduled maintenance to complex diagnostics, we keep coastal drivers moving safely and confidently all year long.

Air Conditioning Repair

Coastal summers in Cayucos can still get warm, and a malfunctioning AC makes every drive uncomfortable. We diagnose and repair refrigerant leaks, compressor failures, and airflow issues to restore full cooling performance for San Luis Obispo County drivers year-round.

Brake Repair

Highway 1 curves, hill descents near Toro Creek Road, and tourist traffic make reliable brakes essential for every Cayucos driver. We provide thorough brake inspections, pad and rotor service, and hydraulic system repairs to keep your stopping power confident and consistent.

Diesel Service & Repair

From work trucks hauling equipment through San Luis Obispo County to RVs making their way along Highway 1, diesel vehicles need experienced hands. We provide comprehensive diesel service including injector work, turbo diagnostics, fuel system maintenance, and engine repair.

Electrical Diagnostics

Coastal salt air accelerates corrosion on electrical connectors and components, making precise diagnostics especially important for Cayucos area vehicles. Our team uses advanced tools to identify faults accurately, reducing unnecessary part replacements and getting you back on the road fast.

Aftermarket Parts and Accessories

Whether you want to upgrade performance, add utility, or enhance appearance, our team sources quality aftermarket parts compatible with your vehicle. From towing packages to suspension upgrades, we help Cayucos drivers get more out of every mile along Highway 1 and beyond.

Check Engine Light Repair

A check engine light should never be ignored — especially on coastal routes where breakdowns are far from help. Our technicians run precise diagnostics on all makes and models, identify the underlying cause, and provide honest repair recommendations for Cayucos area drivers.

Differential Repair

Worn or damaged differentials can become serious problems on coastal roads with sharp turns and grade changes near Cayucos. We inspect, service, and repair front, rear, and four-wheel drive differential systems to restore proper handling and prevent costly drivetrain damage.

From rough idles to complete engine failure, our team handles it all. We use quality parts and proven methods to restore power and reliability — whether you need a minor repair or full replacement on any vehicle driven along the Central Coast.

Alternator Repair

Salt air and coastal humidity can accelerate electrical component wear on vehicles driven near Estero Bay. We diagnose and replace failing alternators and charging system parts to restore reliable electrical output before you end up stranded somewhere along the Central Coast.

Classic Car Division

Classic and vintage vehicles deserve specialized care, and Cayucos has its share of lovingly maintained machines. Our classic car division provides maintenance, mechanical repair, and restoration support for collectors who want their vehicles preserved and performing at their best.

Drivetrain Repair

Winding coastal roads and long highway stretches put real stress on drivetrain components over time. Our repairs cover driveshafts, CV axles, U-joints, and transfer cases — addressing wear before it leads to failure somewhere between Cayucos and the next town.

Really great to work with, radiator blew while traveling through town. Extremely fair on pricing and service was great. They even cleaned the van inside and out. My wife really appreciated that part. Would use as my regular shop if lived near by.

Tug Bozanich Customer

Great business. Very personable, friendly, and professional. The owner Jimmy walked me through the repairs needed, and was honest in his assessment of my needs. The repair was done quickly and efficiently, and I’m safe on the road once more. Thank you Shift’n Gears!

Kevin Lambert Customer

Kevin was great from the jump, as soon as I called I knew I was going with them. He didn’t sound bothered or bored, but actually interested in helping me. Really set them apart from the rest immediately.

Jacob Havard Customer

100% recommend! Moved my father to this area and he was in need of something minor after the 600m drive. We stopped in and they were polite, accurate, informative and in the end they didn't charge us for the issue. I had to leave early to get back to Colorado but they took care of my dad and offered a pickup/drop-off service. I wish these guys were in Colorado but I'm glad they are there for my dad.

Needed an inspection for a transit van. They were able to get us in the same day and perform the task within four hours. Excellent service, very friendly, and the price was reasonable. They had details about what future repairs was needed. Also, they supplied an Uber for me so I didn’t have to wait in the waiting room.

I have friends and family that have had extensive work done on their cars and I hear nothing but good things. I highly recommend if you’re looking for honest, reliable opinions on what I need with you car.

Kevin and team did an excellent, professional job from start to finish on our Corvette! After experiencing a breakdown en route to the coast, they welcomed our car and took time to expertly fix the issues, explaining and keeping us updated along the way. We highly recommend this shop!
